Stephan Moore

Stephan Moore has been working at the forefront of experimental music and sound for over 20 years. His focus on environmental sound works rooted in acoustic ecology, Deep Listening, multi-channel sound systems, loudspeaker design and generative composition have yielded a widely varied output in the form of recordings, sound installations, improvised performances and new media creations. Through long associations with pioneering artists like Pauline Oliveros and Merce Cunningham, and the sound artist Scott Smallwood in their collaborative group Evidence, he has performed and shown his work in numerous venues around the world. He has shared the stage with such notable luminaries as Joan La Barbara, Christian Wolff, Keith Rowe, Ikue Mori, Takehisa Kosugi, Lee Ranaldo, John Paul Jones, Suzanne Thorpe, Maria Chavez, Nic Collins, Katherine Young, Ed Osborn, John King, Larry Polansky, and the performance collectives The Nerve Tank, CabinFever, and Composers Inside Electronics. He has been a primary collaborator and the composer-in-residence with the NYC-based performance group a canary torsi with choreographer/director Yanira Castro for 15 years, producing numerous evening-length works. Moore is based in Chicago, where he serves on the faculty of the Sound Arts and Industries program at Northwestern University and as the co-founder of the Chicago Laboratory for Electro-Acoustic Theater.
